Brief Biography › Luis Szarán

Conducter, composer and musicologist.


Music studied in Asunción with José Luis Miranda, then in Santa Cecilia's Conservatory, Rome with Massimo Pradella and Piero Belluggi. It was perfected in international courses as: Teatro Colón from Buenos Aires with Hans Swarowsky, Academia Chigiana of Siena with Franco Ferrara, Institute Francesco Cannetti with Luciano Berio, Bayreuth Festival with Zwinieg Rudzinsky and others. From 1990 it is managing regular of the Symphonic Orchestra of the City of Asunción (OSCA) and director of the Chamber Orchestra Philomusica de Asunción.

It conducted noted orchestras in the world like: Symphonic Orchestra of Sao Paulo, Symphonic of Santiago de Chile, Orchestra of Madrid Community, Youth Philharmonic of Hamburg; South East Symphony, Hutchinson Symphony and Lawrence Chambers Players of United States; National Orchestra of Camera of the Uruguay, Orchestra Camara Mayo of Buenos Aires, Cappella Civica di Trieste, Italy, Philharmonic Orchestra of Valencia, Spain, Orchestra Sinfonietta of Paris, Orchestra Philharmonic Sudettes, Poland and others. It was managing artistic of the International Festival of Music of Cascavel, Brasil between 1990 and 1995. In recent seasons their compositions were used for the first time by the Orchestra Sinfonietta of Paris, The Berlin Symphonic Orchestra Berlin, the Philharmonic Orchestra from Venice and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Torino.

In the year 2002 received the Medal Vivaldi of the International Festival of Venice, being the first Latin American composer and recruit in the world in receiving it. From 1997 it is Managing Artistic of the vocal and instrumental Domenico Zipoli Ensemble of Venice. For their work in the culture received numerous prizes and national and international recognitions among those that are included: Official gentleman of the Italian Republic, Order of the Science and the Letters of France, Orbis Guaraníticus of the UNESCO, National Order of the Merit of the Paraguay. He is member corresponding of the Real Spanish Academy of the History.

In the 2005, in the University of Oxford he received the reward "Skoll Award Social for Entrepreneurship" of the Skoll Foundation of California, for their work to the front of the program of civic education through the music: Sounds of the Earth. From the 2006 he is managing founder of the World Orchestra "Weltweite Klänge" in Nurenberg, Germany.
